An exhibition of the new linguistic landscape of Catalonia arrived in Salou

An exhibition of the new linguistic landscape of Catalonia arrived in Salou

Salou. Costa Dorada. The Social Caixa Sabadell, ICES (International Center sores Ethnic Minorities and Nations) and the GELA (Study Group on Endangered Languages) have produced the exhibiotn of the Catalan languages, that will pass the City Council Salou from 12 to 22 January, with an organization shared with this Council. This is a new exhibition designed to publicize the diversity of languages that exist in Catalonia, which form the basis of its rich culture of respect and tolerance. Linguistic diversity in a country of seven million Catalonia has always had a strong tradition of openness to influences from other cultures, as evidenced by the diversity of alien origins of many words are now commonly used in our house. This relationship was even more pronounced in the last turn of the Goals, when demographic changes due to immigration has intensified. To close the first decade of the twenty-first century, when there are more than seven million inhabitants, many Catalans have not born here, but they are adding to its cultural heritage and, with their linguistic contributions. The uncertainties of the new linguistic landscape In Catalonia there are speakers of Indo almost all branches, more than half of the language families of Africa, Asia and Oceania, several groups of indigenous languages, plus various Creole languages and sign languages. The result is a contemporary linguistic heritage of the first magnitude, but subject to the uncertainties of the modern world, with strong open questions. They can perpetuate all languages outside their places of origin? We need to encourage their survival? What role plays the Catalan language in this new landscape? The contents of the exhibition The exhibition provides objective data on all languages spoken in Catalonia, from increased immigration quotas that have opened their eyes to all Europeans. Linguistic diversity is no longer seen as a punishment but as a combined heritage of communication that improves the ability of people. Around 12 information panels cleverly structured, the show provides information on issues as varied as the origin of the name of the people, the wealth of sign languages, new family structures, languages and communication systems cultural relations, demonstrating that creativity depends on the geographic scope of a language. Even in a context where public initiatives, formal or spontaneous, in favor of minority communities are proliferating around the world. This Friday, January 15th, at 11.30 am there attend the Mayor of Salou, Peter Granados with teaching Councilman David Ninyà. At this time it is anticipated that there will be a group of school children visiting the exhibition in Europe. All those who wish to visit the exhibition can do so Monday through Friday from 9am to 1pm and from 3pm to 6pm.
