Salou distributes 67,000 certified eclipse glasses

Salou. Costa Dorada. 01 August 2026.

Salou City Council and the Municipal Tourism Board have launched a large-scale operation to distribute a total of 67,000 certified eclipse glasses for the safe observation of the solar eclipse on 12 August.

During the past week, the distribution has been aimed at residents officially registered in the municipality. The distribution point, located in the lobby of the Salou Theatre and Auditorium, has been organised through an efficient system designed to minimise waiting times and queues. Residents first identified themselves at the entrance and then proceeded to a second room, where the glasses had already been prepared and sorted according to each resident's name and the number assigned to each household. Thanks to this organisation, the collection process has been quick, efficient and orderly.

Salou currently has nearly 33,000 registered residents, who have been the first beneficiaries of this distribution campaign.

Next week, the distribution point will move to Xalet Fort, located on Avinguda de Barcelona. Starting on Tuesday, distribution will also begin for owners of second homes in the municipality. In this case, the glasses will be delivered to property tax (IBI) holders, covering approximately 18,000 second homes.

This procedure ensures that the glasses are distributed exclusively to people with a direct connection to the municipality and prevents people from outside Salou from collecting them.

In parallel, before the general distribution began, the City Council had already provided certified eclipse glasses to more than 500 municipal employees, including City Council staff, personnel from municipal organisations, the Local Police and other essential service workers.

Through this initiative, Salou City Council and the Municipal Tourism Board aim to ensure that both residents and second-home owners can safely enjoy the solar eclipse by using certified glasses specifically designed for observing the phenomenon.
