Terres de l'Ebre, elected new Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO



The Ebro Delta and the 'Terres de l'Ebre' is the second biosphere reserve in Catalonia after the appointment of the Montseny Natural Park 35 years ago
Currently in Spain there are 40 wildlife reserves.

The International Advisory Board has chosen the Delta del Ebro - 'Terres de l'Ebre' Biosphere Reserve. The choice has been known in the framework of the 25th Meeting of the International Coordinating Council of UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere (MAB) of UNESCO, summit that was held this week in Paris.

The recognition as Biosphere Reserve is an opportunity that should incur new financial contributions, international dissemination of the territory and the recognition of its heritage values​​: natural, scenic, historical and cultural.

This is the second year that the nomination ebrenca aspires to this title, awarded by UNESCO, after last year was rejected. The limits of application have been modified before setting aside areas under the influence of Asco nuclear plant. The new proposal includes a total of 367 729 hectares, 78% of which are terrestrial and almost 22%, sea.

The Ebro Delta is the second book Catalan getting this statement, 35 years after he did the Montseny Natural Park. The World Network of Biosphere Reserves is part of the "Man and the Biosphere" (MAB) of UNESCO currently comprising 610 reserves, in 117 countries.
