 Batea, crossed by narrow ravines and parallel, which are to different valleys, and valley Voravall Major among others, and Algars river to the west, marks the boundary with the lands of Aragon. From Gandesa can be reached via the N-420 and C-221 (12 km). The villa has an origin Protohistoric; their surroundings, have been found remains of various cultures and peoples, coll del Moro. Batea was first mentioned in 1153, when Ramon Berenguer IV of this land was donated to the Knights Templar of Miravet. In 1181 he received two letters from people, granted by King Alfonso the Chaste. The authority of that place remained in the hands of Bernard Knight Granell, and then went to the Knights Templars. In 1317, the Hospitallers were inherited this sector along with pineapple and Algars within the Castellani Amposta. During the s. XV town had to endure the attacks of the troops loyal to King Joan II, who, after heavy fighting, ended up burning people. The old Batea is more characteristic of Terra Alta. Keep many porches, sheds and buildings of medieval street, the street, around porch, is s. XIV, the Chapel of Our Lady of the Portal is baroque, dating XVII. The church of San Miguel, baroque, neoclassical, was built in s. Francis Meleto XVIII. Formerly in this place, there was the castle and the Gothic church, now, but only retains the moat. The old Batea was walled up in the s. XIX. Today we still see some of the doors as the Portal de l'Angel, portal and portal need Largo San Roque. Buildings are interesting Catalan House, the arcades of St. Michael streets, Central and Gentlemen, the Martin Tower and the castle tower, defensive elements in the channels of communication between Catalonia and Aragon.
