The proclamation officially opens the Nits Daurades 2022 festival

The town crier Rubén López Pulido making his speech and the mayor

Salou. Costa Dorada. 09 August 2022. After a week of preliminary events, the Nits Daurades of Salou 2022 has begun the official program with the proclamation held on August 8 at around 9 in the evening in the gardens of the Salou Tourism Board Office. Until August 15, the Costa Daurada has as its reference the Festa Major de Salou which, among other events, includes great free concerts by Miki Núñez (August 14), David Bustamante (August 11) , Los Diablos (August 12) and Líric a la Casa (August 13).

The intensity with which the Nits Daurades are experienced begins with the announcement, which in this 2022 edition was made by Rubén López Pulido, director general of the Spanish Tourism Office in Dublin.

At the presentation of the proclamation, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, praised the qualities of the municipality of Salou and said that the capital of the Costa Daurada is "a place for holidays, visits, leisure and entertainment, of sensations and experiences, of diversity, of dreams and happiness; open to everyone and excluding no one".

For his part, the town crier thanked the mayor for his invitation and focused his speech on explaining why Salou is so important to the Irish. Rubén López explained that Ireland has 5 million inhabitants and half of them come on holiday to Spain every year, and specifically to Salou, because "they want to live like they live here, and when they come they feel at home here".

Rubén López has also referred to the historical link between the two countries, since Irish mythology explains that the Milesians (from Galicia) were the founders of Ireland, and that is why the Irish feel very connected to Spain .

According to the herald, the Irish is a tourist, moreover, who spends 10% more than the British or German tourist, and who feels well treated in Salou and repeats the holidays in this destination, so it is a destination that he knows and to whom he feels connected even sentimentally. He explained as an example the anecdote of Irish couples who met on holiday in Salou and ended up getting married and forming a family.

Finally, he also praised the City Council and the Mayor of Salou for the close collaboration with the Spanish Tourism Office in Ireland, as this work has allowed progress, anticipating the fall in Russian tourism , and recover with other destinations such as the Irish, the level of visitors before the pandemic and even, in the Irish case, increase it.

The announcement ended with the thunder and the fireworks at the start of the Nits Daurades, by Rubén López.

During the proclamation, twenty residents loudly protested against the Civic Axis project promoted by the City Council, which was initially in the process of review.

Before the proclamation, the main festive elements of Salou (the Morena, the Mulassa, the Ball of Sticks, the giants, the capgrossos and the Grallers La Tarota) made a parade from the Plaza de les Comunitats Autónomos to the Patronat de Turisme , delighting especially the smallest Salouenians and visitors.
