" Alcover today is a dynamic and welcoming people with outstanding heritage attractions, cultural and natural, and a long commercial tradition. It is also, simultaneously, a town with a long history that begins with the fossils of the Triassic and ending with present and future. The route starts from the same urban Alcover Municipal Museum (MMAL), located near the portal Saura Costeta Street, No 1-3. We begin the journey to the Museum itself, where the access portal Saura (2), portal giving access to the medieval town all arriving from Reus. We can see openings monitoring and windows of the house adjacent, with the passage of time, the homes would be using the structure of the ancient wall for its construction. The initial urban development will also take us along the way from Reus to Montblanc-the present main street, and similarly sheltered from its parish church, dedicated to Santa Maria, which is given below. Before we begin our journey through the main street, a few feet back and puts us on the streets of India (1), where probably, if it exists, lies the old Jewish quarter. 2nd section. High street: old church and site of St. Miquel. We go into the full Main Street (3), center of the medieval village, then closed by a wall. In the medium run, we stop in front of the old church, now known as Old Church (4). This church, in Romanesque style, built with the "red sand" so characteristic of the time, was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1931. Unfortunately, in 1937 ceded part of its structure and stood on the current status. Around all the activity was concentrated socio-economic alcoverencs, focal point, along with the old square that will be discussed later. While we continue to ride through the old main street will observe the doors (5). We realize the large number of buildings where noted in the key or lintel of the entrance, in lifting or reform of the house, clear example of economic and urban development at the time . At the end of Main Street stands the other site of the old medieval wall, the portal of San Miguel (6), the other access road coming from the town Montblanc. On the way to him, we stopped at a small street (7), a name attributed to events occurred during the Catalan civil war of 1462, when he suffered a siege Alcover very fierce. The popular voice then says that a cannonball got there to open a small gap, where they finally get into the troops of King John II. 3rd section. Places. Back several feet by the main street and climb up on the street Wake up to the Old Square (8), the other center of the medieval town. This was where the weekly market was held, and where probably in this building that remains on the left, supported by columns, it would place the former House of Common. Let us now back to medieval times right into the golden age of alcoverencs. We are now at the New Square (9). Gradually the nerve center of the town was relocated to the north, and here was built the new Town Hall, just in this building that is on the right. Into the sixteenth century the population of Alcover experienced a sustained population increase, economic momentum was left notes in the process of investing in art and architecture, beginning then the outside wall construction. The textile industry, particularly the burgeoning profession of stops, would become an engine of expansion. 4th installment. Church Street and New items. We will continue forward until you find the Rec street (10), where we surprised to discover the image on top of a large imposing building: New church (11). Large imposing building was built between 1594 and 1630, worked on such famous names as the architect John Mount, Oliveri aucas and Pere Blai. Its facade features Renaissance denotes strength, of which surprises us in particular unfinished bell: 29 January 1795 gave the building, but never coming to redo because of a dispute between the priest and the mayor of time. Back down the street from the Rec, space in medieval times meant a secondary road where I spent irrigation water supplied to the town. It is now the nerve of the people, the place where the greatest concentration of shops in the town. 5th section. Abbey and Cosme ca. Now we look at the Abbey (12), one of the architectural gems from the golden age of Alcover, Pedro Blas built by the year 1618. We then headed towards the end of our journey to rediscover the new museum, Ca Batista (13) a manor house built in 1661 by order of the family Andrew, example of that economic vitality of the moment. In front of him, Plaza Cosme Vidal and the building known as en Cosme (14), the last example of the magnificence of the Renaissance in Alcover and that evokes the character of Cosme Vidal, writer and illustrious personage alcoverenc together with the poet Antonio Isern become a landmark literary modernism of the early twentieth century.
