More than 800 people participated in the Popular Plant to the Francolí

Salou. Costa Dorada. 17 March 2018. The seventh edition of the Plantada Popular on the Francolí River, organized by the Repsol Foundation and the Aurora Association, has been a success. More than 800 people have wanted to join this activity, which aims not only to improve the environment in the river environment, but also encompasses the social and occupational integration of people at risk of social exclusion.

In this edition, which - as always - has had the support of the City of Tarragona, 1,400 shrubs of six different species have been planted.

The Plantada this year has been celebrated again on the right bank of the river (next to the Santa Tecla bridge). In this edition, the collaboration of the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Tarragona has been re-enlisted. The hundreds of participants have planted 1,400 plants of six different species of shrubs.

La Plantada Popular is a family activity that has become a great celebration for the little ones, the main protagonists of the day. That is why the participants have been able to enjoy an initial show designed for children.

As a novelty this year, in addition to planting, maintenance tasks have also been carried out on the plantations of the last edition and these will be extended over the next eight months. This work will be carried out by the workers of the Aurora Association.

Apart from the act of planting and improving the ecological status of the Francolí River and its surroundings, the objective of this initiative is to integrate social and labor, people at risk of exclusion. A team of 20 people with mental disabilities performs the tasks of preparation of the land, such as the clearing of the cane and other plants, the removal of garbage and debris from the section where they must act, etc.

The Aurora Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is the social and labor integration of people affected by mental illnesses, as well as the support and attention of their relatives. Among the different activities developed by Aurora, the implementation of projects to recover fluvial spaces stands out.
